Beyond the Classroom
About Me
Putting my experience to work
Welcome to my teacher website! I am delighted to share my passion for education with you. As an educator, I am constantly seeking out enjoyable and creative methods to engage children in their learning journey. I firmly believe that education is a dynamic process that should adapt to the needs of each child, helping them discover their true potential. Holistic teaching lies at the core of my philosophy. I strive to foster a sense of belonging and confidence within every student, while igniting their curiosity along the way. It is important to acknowledge that I am still learning, even after 10 + years of being in education, I am still learning! I embrace this wholeheartedly since being a lifelong learner is an essential part of my profession. I choose to intentionally be open about the things I don’t know with the children. I believe this creates a genuine love for sharing knowledge. I firmly believe that children bring a wealth of knowledge and experiences into the classroom, making it a collaborative space of growth and exploration. My approach to education centres on building trust and nurturing kindness before delving into the curriculum. I am always seeking ways to infuse my own experiences of growing up in Africa into the learning environment, ensuring a rich and diverse educational journey for all. That being said, let us embark on this exciting adventure of learning and discovery!

Doing Your Part: Building Community Links

I have a growing passion for the communities within my home country- Malawi. I understand that as human beings, we are not isolated entities but part of a vast and interconnected world. Each one of us has the power to bring a ray of sunshine to those around us, regardless of the scale or degree of our actions and contributions. I believe that everyone can choose to be a little philanthropist and make a positive impact in their community.
YOUTUBE

“Ms Chirwa, why do you need a youtube channel? The internet already has so many teaching resources”-
I have heard this more times than I can count. I think it is true the internet offers a vast amount of teaching resources and videos. I simply believe that my face is personal to the children I teach. My gestures and voice are familiar to them. I have seen the look on my classroom's face when I say I have made a video for you- It feels personal, intentional to them. The internet is one huge digital library- there is enough room for everyone on it. Authors have been writing for thousands of years- so should digital teachers.
